The cities of southern Iraq witnessed, on Sunday, protests in which angry anti-government youth participated, in refusal to assign former Minister of Communications Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, who confirms that he is independent, to form the Iraqi government.
Allawi announced on Saturday evening that he would take over as prime minister, exactly four months after the outbreak of anti-regime protests, and two months after the resignation of former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi under street pressure.
The demonstrators demanded the appointment of a political independent prime minister who did not work in the government, and they consider that this does not apply to Allawi.
In the Shiite holy city of Najaf, Sunday demonstrators held a banner saying "Muhammad Allawi is rejected, by the orders of the people!"
