Orange, France's largest telecom company, said it had chosen Nokia and Ericsson to deploy its fifth generation network in France, as the Chinese company Huawei is facing intense political scrutiny in Europe.
"For Orange, the deployment of 5G is a major challenge and is one of the main priorities of the 2025 strategic merger plan," said Fabian Dulac, CEO of Orange France.
"We are delighted to continue our partnerships with both Nokia and Ericsson, key long-term partners, in order to develop a robust and innovative 5G network," Dulac added.
Earlier this week, the European Union followed Britain's move to allow members to limit the role that Huawei could play in 5G telecom networks and resist pressure from Washington to a total ban.
European Union countries can either restrict or exclude highly risky 5G network vendors such as Huawei from the core parts of their telecom networks, according to new guidelines, which seek to address cybersecurity risks for the 28 EU countries at the national and EU levels.
