Seven years later, Apple announces a new version of its Maps app

After more than seven years, Apple said it re-installed its maps application, and joined the competing applications, where it announced last Thursday in a statement that it had launched its new and improved version of the maps application for all users in the United States.

When Apple released its version of Maps in 2012, the product was so bad that CEO Tim Cook actually apologized and encouraged consumers to use other companies ’products. As a result, the biggest winners were applications like Google Maps and Wise, also owned by Google.

The following are the most notable improvements in the application of Apple Maps, according to a company statement:

Privacy:

It appears to be the most prominent part that Apple is counting on to outrun Google, and a key benefit here:

- The Apple Maps app does not require login, and is not connected to the Apple ID (Apple ID).

Custom features, such as suggesting a departure date to catch up on the next appointment, come from an intelligence built into the device.

- The data sent to Apple to improve the application is associated with random identifiers that are constantly reset so that individual users cannot be identified.

- The app does not keep a history of searches or places where the user has found.

Look Around:

It is a parallel service to the "Google Street View" service, and includes high-resolution and 3D images similar to the Google service.

Although this feature is not new, it was absent from the Google Maps application. It is also very expensive and requires production, as the company says it has sent cars and aircraft to cover millions of kilometers in the United States to create the images, and currently the service covers a limited number of American cities, and will extend to Europe "later this year."

Transport information and internal maps:

The app now offers detailed schedules of transport traffic, a direct update of departure and arrival times, and the current location of the bus or train on the road. This service is currently available in a limited number of American cities, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles.

The application also includes internal maps of airports and large shopping centers, where users will be able to know in what role (floor) they are, the locations of lounge rooms, and any stores or restaurants open, according to the Apple announcement.
