Cyprus announces suspected first infection with the Corona virus

Cyprus announced Friday the first suspected case of the new Corona virus after symptoms of the disease appeared on a person returning from China.

"A Chinese citizen who has lived in Cyprus and visited China in the past few days has shown symptoms similar to those caused by the Coronavirus," said a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

The authorities in the European Union member state confirmed that all procedures had been followed to deal with the Corona virus in this case, as the patient was being treated in a hospital in the capital, Nicosia.

The ministry said that "the H1N1 hypothesis has been excluded after necessary checks have been made."

She added that "she will achieve more" in the coming days while the patient is kept in the hospital for treatment.
