A senior American officer testified against Trump losing his job

The lawyer of a senior US military officer who testified in the House of Representatives that helped indict President Donald Trump and try him in the Senate announced that his client fired Friday from his work in the White House.

Lt. Col. Alexander Vendemann was escorted out of the White House where he worked on the National Security Council, in a move his lawyer considered a retaliatory act.

"Vendemann was asked to leave for telling the truth," said attorney David Pressman.

Trump had told reporters hours before that he wanted to leave Vendemann.

"I am not satisfied with him," added the US president, who was acquitted by the Senate on Wednesday of charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

"Do you think I'm supposed to be satisfied with it?" He asked. "I'm not."

Wendemann, who served as director of European affairs on the National Security Council, was present during the July 25 phone call, during which Trump asked his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelinsky, to open an investigation in Ukraine against his potential rival in the upcoming presidential election, Joe Biden.

Ukraine-born Vendman, who was summoned by Congress to testify on the issue, said Trump's behavior was "inappropriate".

"It is inappropriate for the President of the United States to demand that a foreign government investigate an American citizen and a political opponent," he added.
